Fun Lesson Activity about The Snail
Objective: To illustrate to students how snails carry their homes on their back.
Materials: Large cardboard boxes that a student could fit in
Instructions: Show a picture a snail and ask the students what is unique about the snail. Say that the snail is one of a few animals that carry its shell around on its back. The shell is its home and acts as protection when predators threaten the snail. Give the students each a box and say that they are going to decorate and create their own shell. Have the students decorate the boxes and then have them tie the boxes to their backs. Play a game where one student is the predator and the rest of the students are snails with their shells (boxes). The snails need to cross the room from one side to the other. If the predator touches them, they are dead and eliminated. If they are inside their box, they are safe. The first snail to safely evade the predator and cross the room first wins.
