Fun Lesson Activity about The Camel
Objective: The objective of this lesson is for students to infer what animals would survive well in different habitats. This lesson is good to use when talking about different habits (i.e. deserts, rainforests, mountains, oceans, artic tundra)
Materials: A picture of a camel for each student
Instructions: After a few lesson discussing different habitats pass out the pictures of the camels and as the students what is the most unique feature of the camel. When they respond with the “hump” ask them what they think the “hump” is for. After a small discussion, explain that the camels hump is used to store water and fat. This enables the camel to go for a long time without eating or drinking. Then prompt the students to draw the habitat that seems appropriate for the camel. After they are finished, ask a few students what habitat their camel lives in and have them explain why it can live there.
