Fun Lesson Activity about The Puffin

To make a puffin, gather enough styrofoam ovals and spheres for each child to have his or her own. Give each child one oval and one sphere and black and white construction paper. Show them how to attach the sphere, which will be the puffin’s head, to the styrofoam oval, which will be the puffin’s body. Then, give all of the children two wooden sticks to stick into the body as legs. Tell them to use their construction paper to draw and cut out feet for the puffin. Also, tell them to use the construction paper and markers to color and cut out pieces for their puffin. Make sure pictures of puffins are provided for the children so that they know how to make their puffin. Once all of the children are done making their puffin, share a few fun facts about puffins with them. For example, “Most puffins live in iceland.” Or “Puffins have waterproof feathers and like to float on or swim in the ocean.”
