Fun Lesson Activity about The Manta Ray
To make a manta ray, first gather enough wire hangers for each child. The tip of the hanger will be where the manta ray’s tail will come from. Cover the hanger with construction paper, making a triangle shape. Then cut out a trapezoid shape and attach the bottom of the trapezoid to the flat part of the hanger. The trapezoid shape will be where the manta ray’s face will be. Give each child a manta ray, and show them pictures of what one looks like. Then, ask them to color their manta ray and give it eyes, a mouth, and gills. Once they finish this, give each child a long piece of yarn. Tell them to attach it to where the tip of the hanger was so it will be the manta ray’s tail. Once all of the children are done creating their manta ray, give each of them a card with one fact about a manta ray. For example, a manta ray eats small food, such as plankton. Or manta rays can grow up to 25 feet long. One at a time, have the children stand with their manta ray and read the card out loud to the class.
