Fun Lesson Activity about The Horse Running
Objective: The objective of this exercise to illustrate to students the concept of power.
Materials: A picture of a galloping horse, a moped, a Toyota Corolla, and a Fort Mustang
Instructions: Begin by showing the students the picture of a horse and saying that before machinery, the only source of power that we had in the world came from animals or humans. The most common was the horse, which was used to pull wagons, plows, and stagecoaches. Then the steam engine was invented and a scientist named James Watt adopted the word horsepower as a unit of measurement to compare the power of steam engines to the power of horses. Show the horse and tell the students that it is 1 horsepower. Show the moped and say that the power is about 5 horsepower. Show the Toyota Corolla and say that the power is about 165 horsepower. Show the Ford Mustang and say that the power is about 310 horsepower.
