Fun Lesson Activity about The Hummingbird

Objective: Arts and craft project with humming birds.

Materials: Pictures of hummingbirds for all students and also included should be a fake flower of some kind for each student and paper-size piece of cardboard.

Instructions: Begin by showing a video of a hummingbird flying and ask the students what makes a hummingbird different from other birds. Prompt the students to realize the speed at which the hummingbird flaps its wings. Tell the students that this amazing wing speed enables hummingbirds to hover in midair as well as fly backwards. Tell the students this is an important evolutionary trait because Hummingbirds feed solely on the nectar of plants. Then have the students color their hummingbirds. Afterwards have them cut out their humming bird and paste it to the cardboard. Then have the students staple their fake flowers to the cardboard in such a way that the beak of the hummingbird is in the flower.
