Fun Lesson Activity about The Gecko
To make a gecko, first, collect enough colored popsicle sticks for all of the children to have their own. The various colors of the popsicle sticks will show the kids how geckos can be different colors. Give each child a popsicle stick. Also, give them each give colored pipe cleaners that match the color of their popsicle stick. Then, have them draw eyes on one end of the popsicle stick. Give them a small sheet of red construction paper so they can draw, cut out, and glue on a tongue for their gecko. Show them how to use the pipe cleaners to wrap around the stick as the four legs of the gecko and the tail. As they put on the tail, share a few facts about it. For example, geckos use their tails to help them balance, store fat, and blend in to their surroundings. And they can shed their tail if they are being chased by a predator.
