Fun Lesson Activity about The Tilapia
Give each child a piece of paper, and ask them to draw, color, and cut out a tilapia fish. While they do this, draw and cut out additional tilapia. Lay out two large pieces of blue paper on the floor to mimic water. Label one “freshwater” and the other “saltwater/freshwater.” Explain to the children that tilapia are found either in freshwater or in a mix of freshwater and saltwater. Once all of the tilapia are cut out, attach a paper clip to each one. Then, tie a string on one end of a small wooden stick, and attach a magnet to the other end of the string. This will be a fishing pole. Make enough for each child to have his or her own. Next, split the children into three groups, and have them stand next to their designated body of water. Ask each group to work together to catch tilapia using their fishing poles. When the time is up, ask each group to share how many tilapia they were able to catch.
