Fun Lesson Activity about The Star Nosed Mole
While the star-nosed mole may not be the prettiest creature in the world, they are one of the most effective hunters. Star Nosed Moles live most of their life underground and are nearly blind. To make up for this their nose has 21 arms that can feel and create a 3D image sent back to their brain. This allows them to find their meals of earth worms, insects, and fish eggs. Show students what it is like to lose one of their senses. Set up a few brown paper bags and fill them with different items. Some items could include cotton balls, a fork, grapes, a squishy toy, or coins. Ask students to describe what each item feels like. Encourage them to shake the bag and listen to what the item sounds like.
