Fun Lesson Activity about The Maltese Dog

To create a Maltese dog, first, provide each child with a piece of colored construction paper. Also, give them short pieces of white yarn. Show the children what a Maltese dog looks like, and then, ask them to draw one on their sheet of paper. Once they draw their dog, have them glue the small pieces of yarn on their dog. This will represent the long, silky, white hair that Maltese dogs have. Then, have each child cut out a crown from a separate sheet of paper. Let them decorate the crown with jewels, beads, etc. Once their crowns are finished, have them glue the crown on the head of their Maltese dog. Explain to the children that the crown represents that, at one time, the breed was very popular among the people of royalty. Next, provide the children with some additional basic facts about Maltese dogs. For example, they make good therapy dogs because of their gentle, yet playful behavior. After you give some simple facts, tell the children to show something they learned by representing it on their paper. For example, if the child learned that Maltese dogs are playful, then they could draw a ball next to their dog.
