Fun Lesson Activity about The Woodpecker

First, to make a woodpecker beak, roll black construction paper into the shape of a cone. Apply tape or glue to hold it together. Make enough for each child to have his or her own. Then, tape string to the inside of the cone so that it can be placed around a child’s head. Place a small piece of sticky putty on the tip of the beak. Next, draw and cut out a large tree and tape it to a wall. Cut out paper acorns, insects, and berries and lightly tape them around the tree. Have the children put their beaks over their nose by using the string to put it around their head and hold it in place. Tell them to peck for acorns, insects, and berries around the tree– just like a woodpecker would! When they finish, ask the children what they were able to pick up with their beak.
