Fun Lesson Activity about The Whale Shark
Give each child two paper plates. Put the two paper plates together so that the top of each plate is facing the other top. The plates will be the body/mouth of the whale shark. Fold the plate on top in half and then back so that it can fold open and closed when needed. This will be the whale shark’s mouth. Provide the children with a picture of what a whale shark looks like, and let them paint or color their whale shark. Next, draw and cut out many different foods and animals, such as seaweed, octopuses, and plankton. Lay the pieces out around the room. Then, ask the children to wander around with their whale shark and place the food that they think whale sharks eat into their mouth. When they are done, ask each child what they placed in their whale sharks mouth and why. Identify the correct foods at the end.
