Fun Lesson Activity about The Spider Monkey

To create a rainforest where spider monkeys live, collect empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls. Draw and cut out leaves from green construction paper and attach them to the empty rolls. These are branches. Next, attach the branches to the side walls of a hallway. Once you set this up, cut out pieces – face, nose, eyes, ears, tail, legs, and feet – for the monkeys from felt. Do not cut out arms or hands. Let the children put the pieces of their monkey together with glue. Then, give them pipe cleaners, and tell them to shape them into the arms and hands of the monkey and attach them to the felt monkey. After the children finish their monkey, line them up at one end of the hallway. Explain to them that, one at a time, they will guide their spider monkey through the rainforest to the end where they will eventually meet up with their group. Show them how to use their monkey’s long arms and hands to swing from branch to branch. After each child gets their monkey through the rainforest, they should all be together in a group, just how spider monkeys like to be.
