Fun Lesson Activity about The Oyster
This is a great activity to get kids involved in a hands on experiment about oysters. First, collect enough coffee filters for each child to have his or her own. Then, fill cups with water and sprinkle some confetti in the cups. Give each child a cup of water, a coffee filter, and an empty bowl. Ask the children to pair up so they can help one another in the next task. Demonstrate how one child should hold the filter over the bowl and the other child should poor the cup of water on the filter. The water should flow through the filter into the bowl and the confetti should be left behind in the filter. Then, have the children switch roles. Once all all of the children have finished this task, explain to them that the confetti represents nutrients and the coffee filters represent the oyster. Tell them how oysters filter salt water in and out of their hard, protective shell and filter out nutrients to eat.
