Fun Lesson Activity about The Otter

First, make an environment for an otter to play in by collecting two small to medium sized containers. Place blue paper on the bottom of each to simulate water. Label one container “river” and the other “ocean.” Create two ramps out of cardboard. Place each so that it is like a slide into each of the containers. These ramps will simulate hills. Place one or two small balls in each container. Next, collect enough empty toilet paper rolls for each child. Draw templates for the otters’ feet, tails, and heads on paper. Let the children color their otter’s webbed feet, tail, and head. Then, tell them to cut them out and tape the parts to the toilet paper roll, which will be the otter’s body. Once they finish their craft, divide the children into two groups. One group will be the river otters, and the other group will be the sea otters. Direct each group to their designated container, and let them play with their otters. Their otters can slide down the hill into the water, play with the balls, and play with each other.
