Fun Lesson Activity about The Orangutan

Cut out orange felt pieces for an orangutan, including face, ears, nose, legs, and arms. Give each child enough pieces to put together an orangutan. Ask the children to glue the pieces of the monkey together, and then, glue the monkey on a piece of construction paper. Once each child has assembled their orangutan, share some details about the kind of environment they are found, such as one with trees, and the food they like to eat, such as fruit and honey. Then, ask the child to draw either an environment they want their orangutan to be on the construction paper or a food item they want their orangutan to be eating in their hand. After each child finishes, have them take turns sharing with the other children what they drew and why. For example, a child may say, “I drew a banana in my orangutan’s hand because I learned that orangutans like to eat mostly fruit.”
