Fun Lesson Activity about The Meerkat
This fun and interactive activity is a great way to get kids excited to learn about meerkats. First, give each child a black and white map of the world, and ask them to color in Africa, which is where meerkats live. Demonstrate other facts about meerkats. For example, have all of the children pretend to be meerkats and get into groups. Explain how meerkats like to live in groups, which are referred to as clans, mobs, or gangs, in the grasslands or deserts of Africa. Also, have them walk across a thin beam while balancing. Ask them what they did to balance and then what they think meerkats do to balance. Then, tell them how meerkats use their tails to balance while they stand. Another example is to have take all of the children outside, give them a shovel, and ask them to dig in the dirt. While they do this activity, tell them how meerkats are able to dig well with their strong, curved claws.
