Fun Lesson Activity about The Magpie
This is a great activity to get kids up and moving while learning about magpies. First, collect several shiny objects. These could include jewelry, coins, and aluminum foil. Places the shiny objects around the room. Then, tell all of the children to walk around the room and collect shiny objects. Once they all finish, explain how magpies are very attracted to shiny objects. Next, draw, color, and cut out food for magpies, such as fruit, seeds, eggs, reptiles, nuts, and insects. Place the paper food throughout the room. Also, draw, color, and cut out predators of magpies. For example, dogs, cats, and foxes. Place a few predators around the room as well. Then, ask all of the children to walk around the room and find food for themselves as if they were a magpie. Tell them to make sure they try to avoid predators. After this, ask the children to share with everyone what food they found. If they ran into a predator, have them share what it was.
