Fun Lesson Activity about The Kiwi
First, draw a life-sized kiwi bird on a sheet of paper. It should be approximately twenty inches in height. Then, color the drawing. Next, draw a life-sized kiwi egg next to the bird so you can show the children how big their eggs are compared to their small size. Hang the paper on a wall for all of the children to see. Next, write several basic facts about kiwi birds on cards. For example, “Kiwi’s cannot fly.” Or, “Kiwi’s cannot see very well.” Give one fact card to each child. Then, one at a time, ask the children to stand next to the kiwi and read their fact. If they can, have them demonstrate it. For example, if a child said, “Kiwi have brown feathers that help them camouflage,” have them show the class a brown feather. Or if a child said, “Kiwi live only in New Zealand,” have them show the other children where New Zealand is on a map.
