Fun Lesson Activity about The Harpy Eagle
First, get a grabber claw toy. Then, create a giant nest on one side of the room for the eagle. The children will act as harpy eagles. One at a time, beginning at the nest, have each child use the claw to pick something up from the other side of the room. Challenge them to pick up the heaviest or biggest object that they can. Once they grab an object, tell them to walk it back across the room and place it in the nest. After all of the children get a chance to do this, ask them how hard it was to pick up the objects using the claw. Also, mention how many dropped objects and ask them why. For example, the object may have been too heavy. Finally, compare this activity to a harpy eagle. Explain that harpy eagles have extremely strong claws that they use to pick up prey, and they have strong wings that they use to carry the prey back to their nest.
