Fun Lesson Activity about The Grasshopper
Objective: To illustrate to students how amazing the grasshopper’s hop is
Materials: A football field, a five-story building, a picture of a grasshopper
Instructions: The goal is to illustrate to students how amazingly high and far a grasshopper can jump. Begin by showing a picture of a grasshopper to students and telling them that the grasshopper is actually the most amazing jumper in the animal kingdom. A grasshopper can jump 10 times its length in a vertical jump and leap 20 times it’s length in a horizontal jump. Take the students outside of a five story building and tell them that if they were grasshoppers, they would be able to jump over that building. Take the students to the football field. Tell students that if they were grasshoppers, they would be able to jump the length if this football field in only 3 jumps. Have the students try just to get an idea of how amazing the grasshopper is.
