Fun Lesson Activity about The Chimpanzee
Objective: To illustrate the community aspect of how chimpanzees live
Materials: Water basins full of water
Instructions: Show the students several pictures of chimpanzees and say that chimps are one of the smartest animals other than humans. Their brain is most similar to the human brain and scientists use chimps to show that humans have actually evolved from the chimp specie. There are many amazing things about the chimp but the most interesting is their behavior in communities. They live in communities and work together to ensure the survival of everyone. Food is shared amongst the community and other chimps in the community adopt orphan chimps. One very interesting thing is how chimps help and clean each other (show a youtube video). Bring out the basins of water and say that we are going to practice cleaning each other like the chimpanzees. Have the students remove their shoes and wash each others feet to show how chimpanzees go about cleaning their friends within the community.
