Fun Lesson Activity about The Budgie
To make a budgie, first, glue together a styrofoam sphere to a styrofoam oval. This will be the budgie’s body. Stick two small wooden sticks into the bottom of the body. Then, use pipe cleaners to wrap around the sticks as claws. Make enough for each child to have their own pet budgie. Next, give each child a body and a handful of colorful feathers. Include green, black, yellow, purple, white, and blue feathers. Also, include these colors in small sheets of tissue paper. Ask the children to glue the tissue paper on the bird’s head, which is the sphere. Show them pictures of what some budgies look like. For example, adult budgies have yellow heads, some budgies have blue bodies, and other budgies have green bodies. Let the children glue on the color feathers that they want onto the body. Make sure you give them extra long feathers for the tail. Once they finish gluing on their feathers, ask them to glue on eyes and a paper beak. Then, let each child show everyone their pet budgie that they made and compare all the different colors.
