Fun Lesson Activity about The Baby Monkey
Objective: This is a fun gym activity that involves a rope climb
Materials: A picture of a monkey’ hand and youtube video of them climbing tree vines.
Instructions: Begin the class by showing the video of the monkeys climbing in the trees. Ask the students if they think they could climb in that manner. Then ask the students why they think they are so good at climbing. Show the picture of a monkey’s hand and ask the students what is special about their hand. Tell the students that monkey’s are the only other animals that have opposable thumbs like humans. This enables us to grab onto things with our hands. Mention that monkey’s have opposable thumbs on their feet as well is this enables them to grab objects with their feet. This is what makes monkey’s such excellent climbers. Then take all the students to a rope and tell the students that monkey’s can climb ropes with such ease because they have opposable thumbs on their hands and feet to grab the rope. Have a race to see who can climb the rope the fastest.
