Fun Lesson Activity about The Aardvark

First, draw, color, and cut out small termites and insects. Then, lay out a large sheet of brown paper on the floor to represent dirt. Scatter the paper termites and insects on the dirt. Next, give each child a ball of sticky putty, and ask them to roll it out to look like a skinny snake. Explain to the children that the sticky putty represents the aardvark’s long, sticky tongue. One at a time, have each child use their aardvark tongue to try and catch termites and insects in the dirt. If some of the paper termites stick to the tongue, have them put what they caught aside. Give the children a timed limit to catch termites and insect. After, have them count how many insects they were able to catch with their aardvark tongue. Once all of the children have finished the activity, share a few other facts about them with the children. For example, aardvarks live in Africa or they have claws that help them to dig in the dirt.
